Waco Charity Open 2022: What You Need to Know

Waco Charity Open 2022

Every year the best Disc Golfers from around the world converge on the unassuming Central Texas town of Waco, bringing with them a travelling circus of energy, passion, and weirdness for a growing game.

WACO, TX- When you close your eyes at night and dream of the perfect disc golf course what do you imagine? Is it a winding mountain trail with tall aspens, wide open downhill bombers, and lots of dogleg lefts? Or is it a desert oasis on a spring afternoon when the only things on your mind are picking up the next birdie and figuring out where the next trash can is for your can of Coors (the beer of birdies)? No matter where or what you were imagining, I'd have to imagine Waco is not the first, or even hundredth place that came to your mind.

Aerial View of the Beast

Yet on the banks of the mighty Brazos River on the West end of town lies what many consider to be the Mecca of the disc golf community. Going by many names but most affectionately as "The Beast", the disc golf course at Brazos Park East is a true Texas treasure. Featuring 18 picturesque holes, with half being suffocated by native cypress, sage, and cedar trees and the other masqueraded by the white cliffs of Waco, there is truly not a bad view in the entire park.

With mild weather on the forecast for this weekend scores should be low, as wind seems to be the main factor affecting the scores on the upper level of the men's card. Past scorecards show putting is not necessarily the end all be all at the Beast, and drive accuracy will be the most important factor of the weekend. While this may seem intuitive, it really opens up the scorecard for players who either have more experience in Waco or occasionally fall behind on the greens to snag a coveted top 10 or even podium position. Hit your lines off the tee and you have a shot this weekend, but one bad hole can derail you at this unforgiving menace.

Look for the regulars: McBeth, Wysocki, Eagle, etc as well as Emerson Keith to place well, as they are probably coming back with a vengeance after a weak 2021. I do not think reigning champ Nikko Locastro is due for anything special this weekend.

Let me know what yall think and why you think it in the comments, cheers!
